The UCSNS is an ongoing study of behaviour and normative misperceptions of students at universities and colleges in the UK, conducted in collaboration by William Jenkins and Dr John McAlaney at the University of Bradford. It began in 2007 following an increased interest in the UK in the social norms field, which originates from work in the American college system that students markedly overestimate how frequently their peers engage in unsafe behaviours such as binge drinking. To date the survey has been conducted at 200 university and college sites in the UK and included questionnaire items on alcohol consumption, drug use, smoking, crime, personal safety, sexual health and academic achievement.
